HERBAL RESOURCE LIST - June, 2005

A loose list of extended-family or preferred resources, with a heavy emphasis on former students and friends...those in support of bioregional and autonomous herbalism. Centralization and "standardization" of product and marketing is the TRUE enemy. This is the current version. I am sure I missed lots of good folks, but this is what's on the Rolodex, kids. If you know me, you know that I MEAN well, but sometimes forget the details. All opinions mine.

A VERY large selection of wildcrafted herbs, and generally a moral plant source. They will answer questions about their sources, and will freely acknowledge any necessary compromise made. Although Big, B.H. is 2 notches closer to the earth than other wholesalers (such as Frontier) and Michael deals almost exclusively with the pickers themselves. They try their damnest to walk a narrow line between the heavy and blind demands of the herb industry and their acute awareness of the earth. They will also ship fresh herbs if humanly possible. I have even picked for them.

Fair quality of wildcrafted herbs and international herbs as well. Well-meaning, politically aware and BIG, but too heavily tied to the International trade for my taste. There is no other way to run a coop that sells 50 tons of Chamomile by the pound each year, to be perfectly honest. A true coop at heart, the weight of demand has forced Frontier into Big Herb Business.
